Why In-Home Training?

In-Home Dog Training is the most popular and most effective method of dog training, chosen by millions of dog owners nationwide. And with good reason.

Training a dog in your personal home environment has the immense advantage of forming the Trainer/dog relationship in an environment that the dog is most comfortable in. We all know how uncomfortable our dogs get when we take them to the vet, and unfortunately taking them to a Dog Training facility can many times instill the same level of discomfort in the animal. All the other unfamiliar scents, dogs with behavioral issues, and new, strange people will immediately put the dog in an instinctive This is a recipe for an anxiety ridden animal that does not perform well or retain the training program’s teachings long-term.

Despite these facts, most Dog Trainers will gravitate towards offering training services inside their own facility, as this enables them to sign clients at budget rates en masse, and train numerous dogs at once. Not only is your dog uncomfortable with this stranger in a strange place, but now they’re also not getting the one-on-one attention they require to see the long term results.

When it comes to seeing the most consistent results in canine behavioral and obedience training, there is simply no alternative to In-Home, one-on-one training.

What’s Taught?

 Basic Obedience

Basic obedience is taught using positive reinforcement along with verbal cues and hand signals. Some of the commands you can expect your dog to learn include:

  • Heel
  • Sit
  • Stay
  • Down
  • Stand
  • Come when called
  • Walking on loose leash
  • Wait at doorways
  • Go to bed when told
  • 30 minute down stay, with distractions

 Advanced Obedience

Becauese Kathleen Conner’s incredible ability to communicate with animals in a natural and innate way, she is able to teach your dog extremely advanced obedience commands if your life situation calls for it.

Examples of this might be a dog that is trained to turn on the shower, open a cupboard to grab medicine, or even open a refrigerator and grab a beverage. Naturally, many of these commands are highly breed dependent, so please be sure to mention any special needs you have in your consultation to be sure your dog will be able to be trained to accommodate them.

Behavioral Training

When it comes to training a dog that has grown out the puppy stages, there may be some behavioral issues or other concerns that you are struggling with. Below are some examples of the most common behavioral issues we treat in adult dogs:

  • Jumping on people
  • Play biting
  • Destructive chewing
  • Digging
  • Nuisance barking
  • Housebreaking
  • Bolting out the door/running away
  • Annoying guests
  • Fearful behavior

In addition to the above behavioral issues, Kathleen Conner is known throughout the Orange County area as being the Trainer who will tackle and tame the behavioral issues that many other Dog Trainers have no choice but to turn down. Kathleen has a successful history of breaking even the most advanced cases of behavioral aggression towards other people or dogs.

Training Schedule

Our standard program of In-Home Training includes:

  • 8 Lessons In-Home
  • 1 Year Follow Up Membership

After 8 In-Home lessons, your dog will be fully trained for a lifetime of obedience and good behavior. But every now and then, whether due to environmental influences or breed specific traits, a dog will unlearn some of its positive training and fall back to old.

OC Pet Care and Training offers a guarantee that you will not find anywhere else – We guarantee our training with 1 Year of follow up visits. What does this mean? If your dog is one of the rare few that falls back into old habits, just give us a call and follow-up training will be provided at no charge.

Following your dog’s completion of the 8 week training course, you will be provided with:

  • Detailed instructions on how to properly set up your home environment to discourage the dog from returning to any of his old habits.
  • An in-depth explanation on how to establish a proper relationship with your dog that is based on mutual trust and respect.
  • Guidance on how to set up a daily schedule to give your dog structure and routine that will further reinforce the positive habits they learned, and will leave them feeling secure and relaxed.
